The 2024 BMW X6 is a midsize luxury SUV, based on the X5 but with a slanted rear section of the roof to give it a more stylish, sleeker look than the X5's boxy profile. We expect both vehicles to get a refresh this year that will update the multimedia systems to BMW's latest version of iDrive and include the addition of a curved display like the one currently found in BMW's iX electric SUV.
That also means the X6 should gain wireless connectivity for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Exterior styling updates are likely to be minor. The X6's landmark shape when it debuted has been cribbed by rivals and it should retain its coupe-like appearance. Vehicles like the Audi Q8, Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and Porsche Cayenne Coupe should give the X6 a shoutout anytime someone compliments their styling.
The X6's profile does come with some compromises. It has less cargo room and backseat headroom than the X5. But many buyers are looking for SUV-like ride height and a commanding seating position and want some sleekness as part of the package.
Engine choices should remain the same, with xDrive40i models featuring a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that produces 335 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. The M50i ups the ante with a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that pumps out 523 hp and 553 lb-ft. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive both come standard. We cover the X6 M, a high-performance take on the X6, separately.
