ROCKLEIGH, New Jersey — The Volvo XC90 face-lift was unveiled on Tuesday, but don't expect to see it in the U.S. until next year as a 2013 model, a Volvo executive who did not want to be named told Inside Line.
Pricing on the 2013 Volvo XC90 in the U.S. was not announced. The 2012 Volvo XC90 starts at $39,275 in the U.S., including an $875 destination charge, according to Volvocars.com.
All changes to the 2013 XC90 crossover are cosmetic. They include new daytime running lights, a redesigned bumper bar and new taillights. Volvo Cars of North America said that the redesigned silver metallic bumper bar and silver roof rails are standard on all XC90 models. There is also new lower door molding and new six-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels in silver matte finish.
The cabin gets a new three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum trim and watch dial-inspired instruments with white lighting.
The revised XC90 will feature a new mobile application for an iPhone or Android smartphone.
Volvo is planning no vehicle reveals for the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. Instead, it will focus on "brand repositioning" and a new look for its auto show stand around the theme of "designed around you."
Inside Line says: Expect a long wait before you see the 2013 Volvo XC90 in your driveway.

What, no new engine options? I would like to see the 3.0 liter 300 hp T6 in this car. And why so long to get them to the U.S.? Could it be because Volvo dumped so many 2011s at dealer ships, changed the names of the option packages added some new wheel designs and are selling them as 2012s?
I have owned Volvos since 1981 and now own a 2008 XC90. But this waiting for a next gen. or even an engine to replace the loss of the V8 and the "executive" package in the current generation is becoming boring and very disappointing.
I just rode in a friends lowly Honda Pilot with all the options and let me tell you, it made my 08 XC90 seem ancient. Although the Volvo is much better looking.
At my age I want to buy at least one more great car to enjoy before I get too senile to drive it. It's starting to look like it may be another brand.

What a bad sign for Geely. This update is very lame and is clearly not what the XC90 needs to be competitive. The entire brand is growing stale. The exception is the S60 which is a looker, but it was essentially finished by the time the corporate ownership changed. The S40 is going away because Volvo lacks a platform to share with other brands. Prior to Fords ownership, Volvo didn't have the range of R&D resources and efficiencies to produce proper new models. I can't imagine Geely will have anything to provide in that area. They do, of course, have money. So let's hope they know what to do with it.

I think they should just drop it for a couple years, let the XC60 shine and then bring it back once they can make it competetive, if anybody goes to the dealer and looks at both the XC60 & XC90 then the ONLY reason to buy this would be for the 3rd row... but really, I'd just look elsewhere... I don't wanna buy a car designed in 2002, bluetooth barely existed then, and now it's required by law to use a phone in most states...

This car will be 10 years old next year, it despiratley needs a redesign. Only the Jeep Wrangler, Mercedes-Benz G-Glass, Land Rover Defender, and Morgan can get away with making the same car for more than a decade.

So one of Volvo's vehicles that has the greatest potential to sell the best is withering on the vine...great product strategy, there.

Since when do models get two refreshes; this is the 2nd face lift since it was introduced...Isn't it called a mid-cycle refresh for a reason?
This means there wont be a new XC90 for at least 2 more years...
