The big news for 2009 is the optional R-Design package, revealed earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It includes a performance-tuned chassis with stiffer stabilizer bars, firmer shocks and variable-rate steering, as well as a choice of 19- or 20-inch alloy wheels, quad tailpipes, skid plate, brushed stainless-steel sill moldings and silk-matte-finish accents.
Inside, the R-Design package bundles aluminum pedals, leather upholstery, aluminum center stack and door inlays, and special chronograph-style instrumentation with blue dials.
Other changes for 2009 include new exterior colors and wheel designs. XC90 prices in the U.K. start at the equivalent of $64,000.
What this means to you: Perhaps the R-Design will invigorate U.S. XC90 sales when the 2009 arrives here later this year. XC90 sales were extremely low last month, despite over $4,000 in incentives per SUV. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
