    What Is It?
    Volvo VCC

    What's Special About It?
More than just a fanciful look into the future, the Versatility Concept Car (VCC) is an indication of what you can expect from Volvo in the very near future. The exterior takes the unique "shoulders" of the current S80/V70 cars and exaggerates them even further to create a greater sense of the car's length and front to rear symmetry. Likewise, the lines of the hood extend in a continuous crease all the way to the hatch area to form another front to rear connection.

The interior features a similar attention to detail that results in a clean, uncluttered cabin unencumbered by traditional vestiges of automotive design. There are no visible air registers as they have all been hidden while still remaining fully functional; and although the center console extended most of the length of the car, it never does reach all the way to the dashboard. The front seats "float" in their positions thanks to mounts anchored in the sides of the console and outer sill panels while the rear armrest opens up to reveal an integrated child seat. The cargo bay facilitates long-range travel by not only providing an electrically extendable load floor but through the incorporation of two separate under-floor storage bins — one heated and one chilled. There's also an integrated safe for stashing your valuables and a lift-out overnight case.

Another new innovation is the Volvo Ambient Air Cleaner (VAAC), a system that filters out hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides from the air before it enters the cabin. Solar panels power the system whether the car is running or not. There's also the V-pulse key fob that indicates the vehicle's state through a gentle, heartbeatlike pulsing. Should you forget to lock the lock or experience a break-in, the pulse quickens while its display describes the situation.

    Why Should You Care?
The return of the wagon as the preferred method of family transportation may be a ways off but with innovative concepts like the VCC, Volvo could hasten the return to smaller, more efficient and certainly more luxurious means of transportation.
