Volvo Introduces FlexiFuel Turbo Police Car

CORBY, NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, England — Volvo's E85-capable FlexiFuel line of vehicles has grown by one. The V70 Turbo Police Car debuted at the GreenFleet Arrive 'n' Drive event at Rockingham Motor Speedway here.

Volvo is already a major supplier to the Swedish police, providing E85 vehicles to meet a government requirement that at least 20 percent of the police fleet must be flexible-fuel vehicles.

"With our ongoing commitment to provide the Emergency Services in the U.K. and Europe with vehicles that meet their specific requirements, it was a natural and logical step forward for Volvo to offer a FlexiFuel version of our most popular Emergency Services model," says Sarah Tottle, Volvo special vehicle manager.

Volvo's turbocharged 2.5-liter engine does not compromise for the sake of efficiency; it makes 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, allowing for a 130-mph top speed and a 0-60-mph time of 7.6 seconds.

The new V70 2.5FT will be available for order in the U.K. this June.

What this means to you: While police departments in the U.S. are upgrading to Hemi-equipped Dodge Chargers, cops in Europe get the new eco-friendly FlexiFuel V70. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
