GUANGZHOU, China — Volvo has unveiled the long-wheelbase S80L at the 2008 Guangzhou Auto Show, saying the car was specifically tailored for the local market here.

The S80L also will be assembled in China, at the Changan Ford Mazda joint venture in Chongqing. The venture has built the compact S40 sedan since 2006.

The S80L was designed to accommodate a larger rear passenger compartment with more legroom. European luxury sedans such as the S80 typically are used by Chinese executives as chauffeur-driven cars.

Volvo said the S80L will get additional luxury features as well.
