FRANKFURT, Germany — Volvo said it was going for a "more dramatic and expressive" face on the 2010 Volvo C30, which makes its official debut next week at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.
Volvo Cars of North America spokesman Dan Johnston told Inside Line that the 2010 C30 will go on sale in the U.S. in the first quarter of next year. No word yet on pricing.
Front-end tweaks include a new honeycomb grille, a larger air intake patterned after the one on the Volvo XC60 and new headlights.
"Along with the angled lines of the front bumper, the new headlamps, drawn offset and up, reinforce the impression of speed and sportiness," said Fedde Talsma, exterior chief designer at Volvo Cars, in a statement.
Perhaps more eye-popping is a new exterior color, an unusual shade for the usually conservative Swedish automaker: Orange Flame Metallic.
The cabin gets some new color choices, too, including cranberry leather upholstery. Also available is a new interior color combination of "espresso/blond," which bundles a dark brown upper section and a lighter lower section.
A new C30 styling kit includes a front skid plate, side scuff plates with an engraved C30 logo and a rear skid plate. The floor mats with the kit form a "world map" pattern, Volvo points out.
Engines are carryover on the C30 and include a 230-horsepower 2.5-liter T5 engine.
Inside Line says: The C30 shows its wild side with a color choice that would look more appropriate on a Dodge Challenger and a spruced-up front end. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
