- Volvo is recalling the 2010-'11 C30, 2010 S40 and 2010 V50 for potentially loose gearshift assemblies.
- Only models with the six-speed manual transmission are affected.
- The recall is limited to 536 cars.
IRVINE, California — Volvo is recalling certain 2010-'11 C30 hatchbacks, 2010 S40 sedans and 2010 V50 wagon models equipped with six-speed manual transmissions to correct potential defective gearshift assemblies.
The recall affects only a handful of units — some 536 cars to date.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the gearshift lever stud assembly may not have been tightened correctly during assembly.
"If the gearshift lever cable or stud assembly becomes loose, it may not be possible to engage, disengage or shift gears," NHTSA said, adding, "This condition can increase the risk of a vehicle crash."
"To date we have had no accidents or injuries related to this issue," a Volvo Cars of North America spokesman told Inside Line.
Owners can contact Volvo at (800) 458-1552 or via e-mail to customercare@volvoforlife.com, or call the NHTSA vehicle safety hotline at (888) 327-4236.
Inside Line says: If you own one of the Volvo models listed in this recall, check immediately with your dealer. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
