Volvo Says It Will Bring C30 to U.S. in 2008

PARIS — Volvo confirmed today that it will bring the new C30 three-door to the U.S. market, although it stressed that the biggest markets for the little Volvo will be Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain.

Pricing and volume targets for the U.S. have not yet been announced, but Volvo estimates that global sales of the C30 will start at around 65,000 cars annually. The Swedish automaker is moving quickly to bring the C30 to market, with the announcement about production intent coming nine months after the C30 Design Concept was unveiled at the North American International Auto Show. The C30 made its debut in Paris this week.

Measuring 167.4 inches in length, the new C30 is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-5-cylinder engine that produces 218 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. The car will come equipped with a standard 160-watt stereo system or an optional 10-speaker Alpine system.

What this means to you: Volvo has the youth market — not soccer moms — in its sights with the new C30.
