GENEVA — Volkswagen affiliates Seat and Skoda will unveil new five-door editions of the Mii and the Citigo at the upcoming 2012 Geneva Auto Show.
The Seat Mii and the Skoda Citigo are companions to the VW Up! minicar. VW unveiled the five-door Up! in late January.
Like the Up!, the new five-door Mii and Citigo will be launched in European markets in May, with prices expected to start from less than $13,000.
Both the three- and five-door variants offer a 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine in two outputs, 59 horsepower and 74 hp. The most frugal versions return up to 57 mpg on the European driving cycle.
Inside Line says: Let's see if badge engineering works any better for the VW group in Europe than it has for other multi-brand companies in other markets.

Dagmar -
I'm not sure how the European fuel measurements compare with their American counterparts, but it may be that the 59hp motor returns 50% better fuel efficiency than the Ford Fiesta SFE, which has a combined rating of around 35mpg.
Output per liter is an utterly unimportant measurement - a flawed proxy for engine sophistication.

A gas engine that only makes 59 hp/liter? Pathetic. How can the performance standards be so low with the price so high? The base motor is a real penalty box.
