    What Is It?

    2005 Volkswagen Touareg W12 Sport

    What's Special About It?

This high-performance version of Volkswagen's strangely named SUV boasts a 12-cylinder engine that makes 450 horsepower — a feat that places this Volkswagen in a performance category rarely treaded upon by SUVs. Its six-speed automatic transmission sends the power through all four of the unique 20-inch wheels for maximum bite while a reworked exhaust system gives it a unique sound as well.

Interior enhancements to this über SUV include engine turned metallic trim, sport seats with Alcantara inserts and an aluminum inlay in the shifter bezel with the "W12" logo. Just in case that's not enough, the door sills also feature metal sill panel strips emblazoned with the words "W12 Sport." U.S. production for this model hasn't been confirmed yet, but expect to pay upward of $80K if it is.

    What's Edmunds' Take?

High-performance SUVs seem a little contradictory to us, but at least this VW looks good. We can think of countless ways to better spend your money if you're really interested in performance, but Volkswagen probably won't have much trouble unloading a few of these limited-edition SUVs should it choose to add U.S. production. — Ed Hellwig
