WOLFSBURG, Germany — Volkswagen is giving its Tiguan crossover a mild face-lift and will offer new powertrain combinations. The updated 2011 Tiguan goes on sale in June in Germany and later in the year in other markets.

In Europe, the 2011 Tiguan will be available with two new BlueMotion four-cylinder engines — a 109-horsepower 2.0-liter TDI diesel and, slightly later, a 121-hp 1.4-liter TSI gasoline unit. The Blue Motion engines are being offered only on front-wheel-drive variants. Prices in Germany start at just over $31,000.

VW also is making available its seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, replacing the six-speed automatic, as well as keyless entry.

If VW will bring the Tiguan with TDI to North America, I will be one of ther first people lined up to purchase one - even if there is a premium over the gasoline engine.  I love my husband's Jetta TDI and I need the cargo space of at least a compact SUV like the Tiguan.

There are Jetta TDI's everywhere and most people don't realize it because there isn't any smoke or smell.  People see the big Dodge with a Cummins or the Ford F250 with a Powerstroke and equate that to all diesels.

I'm still waiting for VW to send over the Tiguan TDI. Any time now guys. Please.

In the middle of a 3 year lease on a 2009 Jetta TDI and hope the refaced 2011 Tiguan comes with a TDI option or better the new Hybrid TDI.  It's the most fun driving! Am averaging 35MPH around Atlanta and 47+ on the interstates around the Southeast and the torque is great.  Need a small affordable Diesel SUV/Crossover so might have to switch to the Q3 even with a 3.0V6 TDI.  Maybe the Mitsubishi ASX/Outlander Sport will offer a TDI.  Not sure what the American reluctance to buy TDI is...maybe GM's old stab at converting a gasoline to diesel that smoked and sounded it's arrival or a boring reluctance to change..

I recently purchased my second VW and would love the TDI as I drove the Jetta TDI and thought it was supurb.  My friend bought the TDI Jetta and gets 35 mpg.  If you haven't driven it you must.  Good torque makes this a great choice.

    Where is the TDI?

Please bring the oil burner to the USA.

I love the idea of a Tiguan with the gas turbo and a manual transmission, but as with most crossover manufacturers, you can't get useful options with the stick shift.  No AWD or panoramic sunroof, for instance.

New cars are better than ever, but only a few manufacturers-- like Subaru-- offer the optional options that I want.
