Feds Release 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan Crash Results

    1 Rating

WASHINGTON — The 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan scored neck and neck with the 2009 Honda CR-V in federal crash test ratings, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Tiguan earned the highest, five-star rating in both front and side crash tests and received four stars in rollover testing.

The feds note that the Tiguan is equipped with standard antilock brakes, stability control, traction control and standard side curtain airbags for the first- and second-row passengers.

The federal government is slowly rolling out crash test results on 2009-'10 vehicles on a dedicated Web site called, Safercar.gov. For instance, it only has completed a single test on the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro, giving it a five-star ranking in front side driver crash tests. All other test results on the new Camaro are still pending, it said. The 2010 Ford Taurus is not yet rated, and neither is the 2009 Nissan GT-R.

The government's New Car Assessment Program, which is part of the NHTSA, is designed to help consumers in making their vehicle purchasing decisions. The rating results range from one to five stars, with five being the best a vehicle can achieve.

Inside Line says: The Tiguan gets some high marks from the feds, as the NHTSA slowly begins to issue grades on the classes of 2009 and 2010. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
