Volkswagen Scirocco Photos Leak Prior to Geneva Debut

SANTA MONICA, California — Although it was embargoed until the official world debut on Monday in Geneva, pictures of the new Volkswagen Scirocco leaked onto various Internet sites today. The overall styling mimics the Iroc concept vehicle that appeared two years ago in Paris.

In the move from concept to production, the Volkswagen Scirocco lost the shield grille design that gave it an almost Audi-like look up front. Instead, the production model uses straight, horizontal lines that give it a wider, more traditional look. The rest of the Scirocco's design is almost identical to the concept save for the new taillights and larger, more useful side mirrors.

Look for more details next week after the official debut, but don't expect any discussions about U.S. sales. Volkswagen officials have continually denied that the new coupe will make its way to the States and there have been no indications to the contrary.

What this means to you: If you were hoping that the production Scirocco would remain true to the concept, your prayers have been answered. — Ed Hellwig, Lead Senior Editor
