- The Volkswagen Polo was named 2010 World Car of the Year.
- VW's BlueMotion lineup was named World Green Car.
- Chevrolet Camaro was voted 2010 World Car Design of the Year.
NEW YORK — Beating out the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Toyota Prius, the Volkswagen Polo was named 2010 World Car of the Year at the 2010 New York Auto Show on Thursday. The Chevrolet Camaro was named 2010 World Car Design of the Year, while the Volkswagen BlueMotion lineup, which includes the Golf, Passat and Polo, was named the 2010 World Green Car.
Judges said the Polo is able to hold "its own in the most competitive market segment" and described it as "one of the classiest small VWs ever built." The Volkswagen Golf took home the top prize in the 2009 World Car of the Year competition.
The Camaro beat out the Kia Soul and the Citroen C3 Picasso for the design prize. Judges said that "the new Camaro leans on its heritage, but does so in an artful, modern fashion."
The Volkswagen BlueMotion trio defeated the Honda Insight and Toyota Prius to take home the 2010 World Green Car award. "The BlueMotion models are among the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the market," the judges said.
The World Car of the Year competition was launched in 2004, with winners chosen by a panel of automotive journalists from Asia, Europe and North America.

@5010avanti:
What rock have you been living under? Vw has stepped their game up tremendously since the shaky quality of the 98-04 models. EVEN the very biased consumer reports strongly recommends a few Vw models. I think the problem with the 98-04 models had a good deal to do with the owners not taking good care of their cars. These cars LOVE their maintenance and if you do it correctly, you shouldn't have to worry about anything.
I have an 01 Vw 1.8T and i haven't had any problems with the car. I've just been fixing the previous owner's lack of care for the car. Honestly this thing just goes and goes like no tomorrow.
Also, you should note that Vw is THE number one brand in the world right now and have been for awhile now. Seriously, maybe you should go checkout a Vw dealership. :)

C'mon, a miniature Golf gets Car of the Year? Must be a pretty bad year in New York.
What the hell is so special about it? What ground has it broken?
Seems like VW has some pull here. Golf last year and Polo this year? These unreliable VWs have been around forever. Hell, they even look like they did 30 years ago.
