WOLFSBURG, Germany — The Volkswagen Polo gets a new three-door variant, which will be unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show and goes into production in October at VW's Pamplona plant in Spain.
The Polo three-door joins the five-door hatchback, providing a sporty counterpart to the small family hatchback. At launch, VW will offer four gas and two diesel engines, from 1.2 to 1.6 liters.
Even the basic model will be well equipped, with stability control, ABS, four air bags, speed-sensitive power steering, power windows and CD player.
Significantly, VW will also offer a new Polo BlueMotion variant, with a 75-horsepower 1.2-liter TDI engine that is said to deliver average fuel economy of more than 70 mpg and a CO2 level of less than 90 g/km.
Prices in the UK will start at around $15,350 and will range up to $23,000.
