    What is it?
    >Volkswagen New Beetle Dune

    What's special about it?
The New Beetle Dune concept car features a variety of modifications aimed at creating a vehicle that can venture further than a standard New Beetle. To that end, there's a transverse-mounted V5 (Yes, a V5. Like a V6, minus one cylinder.) driving all four wheels. The tires are monster 235/60R18s. The exterior features more robust bumpers and a removable targa roof. Inside, Volkswagen gave this beefed-up Beetle a more rugged appearance with metal trim and aluminum panels for the cargo area.

    Why should you care?
Don't expect to see a Dune at your local VW dealer. However, the Dune's all-wheel-drive shows that Volkswagen might consider producing an AWD New Beetle in the future. This is quite feasible, as the Audi TT quattro is built on the same platform as the New Beetle.
