HERNDON, Virginia — Volkswagen has become the first car company to launch a vehicle exclusively on a mobile device with its Real Racing GTI iPhone application, and now it has announced the first two winners of the 2010 GTIs being given away in conjunction with the game.

Real Racing GTI is a free application developed by Firemint, the creator of the popular app Flight Control. Real Racing GTI has already been downloaded more than 2 million times. It offers one main track and access to six all-new 2010 GTI sport hatches.

The app has three game modes: Quick Race, Time Trial and GTI Cup championship. In the latter game, players battle for the top spot across three tracks. The full version opens up the game with a variety of other cars and tracks and allows you to publish your best laps on YouTube as well as link the game to any Facebook or Twitter account.

The German automaker is also giving users the chance to win a new GTI just by playing the game and has already given away two of the six vehicles allotted. Each of the next four weeks, one player will be chosen to win a specially tuned version of the hot hatch. The unique model includes a 2.0-liter, 200-horsepower four-cylinder under the hood, a high-performance suspension, black 18-inch wheels and a modified interior with carbon-fiber trim, a numbered plaque and unique stitching on the headrests.

Visit the Real Racing GTI Web site to download the app and see when the next winner will be selected.

Inside Line says: It's a win-win situation with VW's fun, free app that also gives you the chance to win a 2010 GTI. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
