- VW is showing two special-edition Golf GTIs at the 2010 Worthersee Show.
- Golf GTI Adidas is a cross-marketing effort with the athletic brand.
- Golf GTI Excessive shows off accessories VW is considering packaging as an accessory pack.
REIFNITZ, Austria — Volkswagen said it is studying the reaction of its followers at the 2010 Worthersee Show to determine whether it should spin an accessories pack off the VW Golf GTI Excessive concept that debuted here. It also showed off the Golf GTI Adidas, which it says riffs off the "style of the Adidas brand."
Cosmetic changes to the GTI Excessive include the addition of a deep front splitter and a pair of revised air dams on either side of the grille. Other details include sill extensions finished in gloss black, a new rear diffuser, titanium-tipped exhaust pipes, redesigned wing and LED taillights.
The cabin of the GTI Excessive gets redesigned bucket seats, as well as brushed aluminum and gloss black trim.
"The 2.0-liter TSI engine is left unchanged," said VW in a statement. "However, the addition of a free-flowing and marginally lighter exhaust system raises power" from 207 to 211 horsepower.
The concept also gets firmer springs and dampers and a wider track, along with new 19-inch BBS alloy wheels.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI Adidas is a cross-marketing effort. It "will launch with wide-ranging customized exterior and interior features," said VW in a statement. "They include newly designed 18-inch Serron alloy wheels and a specially developed sport seat design."
Inside Line says: Expect a big thumbs-up from VW followers on both of the Worthersee models. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Italians and French car companies know style and are great with their car designs. Seems like Germans trying so hard to be stylish but the harder they try, the worst they get. Look at the Porsche GT3 trying to look cool with the red hubcaps and home depot rear wing, the lime green Cayman S and now this Adidas Golf shoe thing. Hans and Franz just have no good taste when it comes to art. They should just make engines.
red hupcaps? what decade are we in again? 1958 was a few years back ......wasn't it?

I like the excessive but also "so what" on the Adidas. Stop with the cosmetics and bump it to the 211hp /258 Ft/lbs thats in the current A4. Now that would sway me.

I like the aggressive look of the 'Excessive' edition, but the 'Adidas' one is just silly to me. Who wants the logo of a shoe company plastered all over the seats of their car? That, and some different wheels, seem to be the sum total of what the Adidas package offers, so my response to that one is 'so what?' If Adidas wants me to advertise their shoes with MY car, that I paid MY money for, they should pay me to do it, not make me pay them! I agree with isend2c's comment, too... the least they could do if you get this 'package' is give you a pair of shoes to go with it, lol.

mrjost55 - with the example you gave, I am not sure if you are supporting my point or arguing it?

About the German Style comment:
How about the current Z4, Mercedes CLS, VW CC, Audi R8, Mercedes CLK Black, Porsche CGT, Mercedes SLR....and that's just from the 2000+ models.
