Upping the ante from HGP's previous 600-horsepower biturbo Golf R36, this further modified version pumps out another 40 horsepower. This rivals VW's Golf GTI-650 concept, which is dealing with a slightly more powerful platform: a 6.0-liter W12.
Testing of the former HGP Golf on steroids warranted quite respectable numbers, with zero to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph. It even remarkably dashed to 174 mph on Nardò's high-speed track in a mere 23.5 seconds.
Expect the new Golf to shave a few 10ths off the previous specs with an estimated price tag of more than $145,900.
What this means to you: Let's hope the suspension and drivetrain can handle power of this degree. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
