What is it?
2000 Volkswagen Golf 1.8T and Jetta 1.8T
What's special about it?
Volkswagen announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show that both the 2000 Golf and Jetta would be available with a turbocharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine. This is the same engine that is found in the New Beetle 1.8T and the Audi A4 1.8T. It produces 150 horsepower. In the Golf and Jetta, the new engine will be an option. In the Golf GTI, the turbocharged engine will be the new standard powerplant. The 2.8-liter V6 will remain in the GTI GLX and an option on the Jetta.
Why should you care?
The 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine found in the base Golf and Jetta has never been one of our favorite powerplants. This new optional engine should improve matters considerably.
