The Eos launches in Europe next spring and goes on sale in the U.S. in the first half of 2006. In size, the Eos slots between the Golf and Passat but above the New Beetle convertible.
Made by Karmann, the Eos' roof has five sections. When closed, the roof curves in an arc between the rear end and the windscreen, giving the car the look of a coupe. The top can open completely in 25 seconds. Or, the glass/sliding/tilting roof can be opened partially like a sunroof.
In Europe, the Eos will be available with four gasoline engine options and a diesel. The Eos will be equipped with ESP stability control and side airbags.
What this means to you: Automakers are finding increasingly ingenious ways to provide open-air motoring.
