PEBBLE BEACH, California — For Volkswagen fans, one of the highlights of this weekend's 2008 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance was the unveiling of the CC Gold Coast edition. The appearance package for the car, which is slated to hit the U.S. market in the fourth quarter of 2008, puts a premium on such amenities as tri-coat paint and ground effects.

The CC Gold Coast is decked out in "Pepe Pepper," an exterior paint that blends gold, brown and silver tones. Other exterior cues include a spoiler with rear-end ground effects and 19-inch "propeller-style" wheels. The cabin has four sport seats with lots of leather trim.

The CC Gold Coast is powered by the 3.6-liter TFSI rated at 280 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, mated to a double-clutch six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic. VW has yet to announce pricing, saying only that the base CC will start at "under $27,000."

What this means to you: Consider this the gold standard for the VW CC. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
