HERNDON, Virginia — The Volkswagen CC, as part of a midcycle freshening, gets new front- and rear-end styling for model year 2013. The car will be publicly unveiled later this month at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show and goes on sale at U.S. dealers in the spring.
Introduced four years ago and marketed in Europe as the Passat CC, the car is billed by VW as a "four-door coupe" and is intended to appeal to some of the same upscale buyers who shop such competitors as the Audi A7 and Mercedes-Benz CLS550.
VW said the 2013 CC will be "technically and visually updated," with adaptive bi-xenon headlamps and LED taillamps, among other hardware upgrades.
The 2012 VW CC is priced from $29,335, including an $820 shipping charge.
Inside Line says: Nibbling away at the lower end of the A7/CLS segment, the CC was designed, like its rivals, for people who like the styling of a coupe and the convenience and seating capacity of a sedan.

I leased a 2009 Passat Luxury with tech package, and in August turned it in for a 2011 335is convertible. I can't speak for all VWs and all ownership experiences, but I did not have a single problem with my CC and the quality, fit, and finish were outstanding, and I got lots of compliments and inquiries (especially when it was new and few people had ever seen one).
Granted, the E93 is at the end of its life cycle, but the interior materials are no better in the BMW, and it is twice the cost.
My parents had a 1978 Rabbit that was my first car, and it wasn't that great. But to never consider a brand because of a poor experience decades ago like a previous poster is pretty laughable. Car years are like dog years, everything changes and improves at an amazing rate. Hyundai and Kia are two excellent examples of car makes that shouldn't be judged based on their products just 10 years ago.

"That is one cheap plastics interior with a piece of authentic wood looking plastic accross"
What are you smoking? Have you ever been in a VW? They have some of the best interiors at any price range, let alone under $30k.

I have got to say that I love the mid-cycle refresh on the cc. Manufacturers either butcher a great design or make a gret design ever better. I have to say VW has done the latter. I love the new corporate look on this car and the EOS.

As another happy 2010 CC owner I'm in agreement with bc1960 regarding all vinyl interiors in present CC's being a problem. Thankfully, it wasn't so in '10 models, where all trims BUT the cheapest had Nappa leather. So, it is interesting what materials will they offer with this redesigned CC. Regarding the exterior, looking at these '13 photos, I personally don't really like this redesign, esp. the front end that was made in line with the design of the Americanized Passat, that in turn oddly reminds me of the 2001-2002 MY Kia Optima.
Also, I'm with hooklyn on the reliability issue. The "VW crappy reliability" stereotype has to go. But, on the other hand, as it keeps people from buying VWs, not seeing the car exactly like mine on every corner is very good. :)

As the owner of a 2010 CC I can say the car has been great. Really only one issue (rear tie-rod bushings) which were replaced under warranty. Reliability for the VW brand is higher then ever. Consumer Reports ranked the brand exactly average among all makes. Certainly not Honda/Toyota reliability but almost Hyundai/Kia/Mazda/Nissan/Ford reliability and better then anything from Chrysler/GM...

I can't think of a better way to spend $30k on a sedan then the CC. Best interior around, sharp exterior looks, near-V6 performance, 30+mpg hwy mileage, and plenty of room for 4 adults. The sloping rear roof is NO issue due to the seats in the rear being bucket seats. Sure, you give up a middle seat (only this country as a 5th rear seat is optional in other markets) but you get the 4 more comfortable seats this side of an A8.
Way to go VW. Class-leading in every segment but the Jetta's. Everyone's got one in their lineup...

I've always been a fan of the CC. I'm not crazy about the new grille, but I'd gladly take it to get the other updates. I just wish we could get 4Motion with the 2.0T.

The Volkswagen CC is a beautiful car both inside and out but my personal favorite among affordable midsize sedans is still the Mazda 6 (the V6 in particular) which itself is also beautifully and dramatically styled. Though not as luxurious as the CC, the Mazda 6 is probably less expensive to own and maintain. Also, Mazda is one of the few auto makers along with Volkswagen than can design cars that are sharp handling and fun to drive. Much respect to VW none the less.

This is a quite stylish European car in that price bracket, but all VW's cars have quiality and reliability issues. IMO, for luxury cars' shoppers, those issues are not dealbreakers at all; but for the buyers within that price bracket, those issues are the very dealbreakers.

@bestjinjo " <-- no idea how people still buy Honda Accord, Altima or Camry when for a couple bucks more you get this stylish sedan with vastly improved driving feel, interior design/materials and class!"
I'd venture to guess some of them do this because the CC's sloping roofline cuts rear headroom..not to mention the rear only seats 2 people (dual bench seats in the back). This is a deal breaker for most families.

Overall, I think this is a nice refresh. For the design naysayers, please name 3 sedans that start at less than $30k that look better. If you can't, then this "ugly" design will be a class leader.
