VW confirmed that the Passat-based four-door won't use the Passat name in the U.S. In European markets, the car is being marketed as the Passat CC.
The entry-level car in the U.S. will feature VW's ubiquitous 2.0 TSFI engine, rated at 200 horsepower and 207 pound-feet, as well as a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic with Tiptronic. VW also plans to offer an uplevel variant with the 280-hp 3.6-liter V6 FSI engine.
What this means to you: Looks like VW may have learned a valuable lesson about pricing and product positioning from its disastrous experience with the Phaeton. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
