The partners have revised the front and rear styling. VW describes the interplay of visual elements in front as a "lion dance" — no doubt a description that the Chinese are likely to understand and interpret much differently from their German counterparts.
Chinese consumers will be offered a choice of two four-cylinder gasoline engines, mated to either a five-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic gearbox.
For the China market, the New Bora will be marketed in a standard Trendline version as well as an uplevel Comfortline. Standard features on both models include antilock brakes, front airbags, power steering, power windows, climate control and a CD player. The Comfortline adds 15-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, anti-theft alarm, cruise control and parking sensors.
Customers also can order a navigation system, side airbags and leather upholstery.
What this means to you: The Chinese Bora is moving even further away, stylistically, from its Jetta sibling in North America. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
