HERDON, Virginia — Volkswagen officially launches its 2012 Beetle television advertising campaign this Monday, September 12, and today the automaker released on YouTube a preview of its first TV spot, called "It's Back."
In January 2011, VW teased the 2012 Beetle during a popular Super Bowl commercial, titled "Black Betty".
This time the 2012 Beetle gets a little more screen time that should help acquaint viewers with its distinctive new shape. Sales of the redesigned Beetle start this fall.

OPRAH'S favorite car. She even gave the entire audience one of these new models in one of her last shows. Also the audience was 95% female. Wonder if VW will use that in an add !

"Try to deny it as much as you want but the last generation "New Beetle" was a feminine design and that in itself is a negative. Flattening the roofline and elongating the hood put a much needed masculine feel to this new version of the car."
"I started thinking about getting a beetle....then all my friends labeled me homo....still too soon after the New Beetle for it to be manly for guys to get Beetles"
I cannot believe that anyone subscribes to this moron school of thought as described above. Seems to me that these beliefs just support the thought that you must be quite insecure about your own masculinity. It comes across as : "Well if I put it down as being too feminine then those who read it would think I'm really tough" . Who gives a rats azz ? Who cares what others thinks about what you drive or want to drive? Have more confidence in your own decisions and worry less of what others think .

I think it's a very good commercial. It gave the correct message... That the Beetle is no longer a chick car and welcome back to the old style of the original car that was for everybody.

There is an old saying I've had for years in my long history in the graphic design/marketing world that also applies to the design world of automobiles: Men will never buy Feminine, but Women will always buy Masculine.
To prove my point take a stroll down the laundry detergent aisle in WalMart. Take note of how many designs of detergent and fabric softener have gone to Blacks and Silvers as the predominate color. That is a very masculine design trait. The industry has taken note that this younger generation of men are making the grocery purchases and doing the laundry more and more than their fathers' did.
Along with that look at how masculine the women's shampoo aisle has become. In some instances you have to double check whether you are buying AXE [for men] or Tres Somme [for women] due to amount of Black and hard design edges used on women's products.

"This ad means VW is desperate
It seems new beetle' sales failed to take off, so that VW trys to reach younger male buyers. "
UHHHH...the car is not even at dealers yet...

Hmm.. All of you who wouldn't buy it because it's "not manly enough" must be pretty insecure about your masculinity or heterosexuality.

Lame car, lame ad. Who wants one of these anyway?
VW is fooling themselves if they think a flatter windscreen and minor styling changes are going to ditch the chick car stigma.
To all but VW fanboys this is hardly distinguishable from the first New Beetle.
Misreading the American market? "Volkswagen does it again" ,

I'd go for a Beetle TDI 6sp manual (though unavailable yet)...

I remembered seeing a black New Beetle parked behind the building I work at in downtown LA about a month ago...then I watched this video and realized that they filmed this there!
In person, the Beetle looks really good. I wouldn't buy one, but it's not a bad looking car.
