- Toyota unveils the latest generation of its global subcompact for the European market.
- A hybrid version is said to be in the pipeline.
- The European edition of the Yaris is built in France.
LONDON — Toyota has unveiled the latest generation of its Yaris global subcompact for the European market. The European Yaris is built in Valenciennes, France.
The third-generation Yaris — sold in Japan as the Vitz — gets all-new sheet metal and a revised interior.
Among the engines that will be offered in Europe are 1.0- and 1.3-liter gasoline units and a 1.4-liter diesel. A hybrid variant, similar to the Yaris HSD concept that was shown earlier this year at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show, is said to be in the pipeline for Europe and other markets.
Toyota said the new Yaris in Europe will feature a touch-screen multimedia system called Touch & Go, with a 6.1-inch screen included as standard.
Inside Line says: The Yaris remains one of the least expensive small cars in the U.S., with prices starting at under $14,000.

Neither inspiring nor class changing, it is still one of Toyota's better efforts in a while. I hope it's the sign of things to come.

Very matured and practical design. Hope its sales take off, and so does my toyota stock.

Overstyled. Looks considerably worse than our current generation.
Interior's pretty nice though.

It's funny that it's called the Vitz over there.
Vitz is the Yiddish word for 'Joke'.

Not bad, hope US versions get an updated version of the 1.8 liter with near 40 combined MPG.

Why don't they offer the 1.8 anymore or the 1.5 turbo? Toyota I am disappointed. They need to bring back the YA-RACE name.

I bet there are many other cars that had a similar set-up before the Fit. The center console does look a bit too much like the Fit but I guess it was the best and they had to go with it. I doubt they would give up usability for the sake of originality.
