- Toyota paired with SportsCar magazine to build the Yaris GT-S Club Racer.
- The modified 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine puts out 145 horsepower.
- The project car is on display at SEMA this week.
LAS VEGAS — Toyota has transformed its humble Yaris econocar into the Yaris GT-S Club Racer, in a collaboration with SportsCar magazine at the 2010 SEMA Show.
The Yaris GT-S Club Racer is based on a 2006 Yaris five-door hatchback that made its first SEMA appearance in 2007.
The car was stripped of its audio system and air-conditioning, among other items, paring weight to the SCCA's 1,900-pound class minimum. Then the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine was modified with a K&N air intake, a DC Sports header and Rebello Racing Engines camshafts and cylinder head, among other changes, boosting output from 106 to 145 horsepower.
The Yaris GT-S Club Racer sports Goodyear Eagle Sports Car Special racing slicks mounted on 20-inch Jongbloed Racing wheels, as well as a Kaaz limited-slip differential and a Coast Fabrication Ultra Lightweight racing muffler.
The exterior graphics treatment, from Molly Designs, was inspired by the IMSA GTP Toyota Eagle Racers built in the 1990s by Dan Gurney's All American Racers.
Inside Line says: Interesting choice for a project car. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

A roll cage? Really? Do you really expect me to believe that this little P.O.S. is capable of achieving anything close to resembling racing speed? 0-60 in two weeks? Get frigging real.....

I think there's a spelling mistake in the heading. You guys got one of the letters in 'racer' wrong.

that's awesome. the shape and size of the 3 door yaris is pretty unique to the US market of cars and this Club Racer just makes it look even cooler.
