2008 Geneva Auto Show Preview: Toyota Urban Cruiser

GENEVA — Toyota will show production-ready versions of its iQ compact and small Urban Cruiser utility vehicle at the upcoming 2008 Geneva Auto Show.

The Urban Cruiser was first seen two years ago as a concept. The production model, which goes on sale later this spring in Europe, will be slotted in size and price below the RAV4. Toyota describes the Urban Cruiser as an "environmentally responsible SUV" with a focus on low emissions and fuel consumption.

The company also is showing the production edition of the iQ baby car that was unveiled as a concept at last fall's 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. The fuel-sipping three-seater will hit European dealerships later this year and will go head to head with Volkswagen's Up mini.

A Toyota North America spokesman says there are no immediate plans to market either vehicle in the U.S.

What this means to you: Look for Toyota to display more cutting-edge fuel-saving technologies at Geneva. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
