TORRANCE, California — Toyota is recalling 51,000 2011 Toyota Tundras because of a driveshaft part that may break, according to a statement on Tuesday by the automaker.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had not posted any information about the Tundra recall on its Web site as of Wednesday afternoon.
Toyota said the rear driveshaft in an estimated 0.05 percent of the vehicles may include a slip yoke that could break due to improper casting during the foundry process. Toyota said it is aware of one driveshaft slip yoke failure in a customer-owned vehicle. It said there are no reports of accidents or injuries associated with this condition. No other Toyota or Lexus vehicles are involved in this recall.
The recall will begin in May. Toyota dealers will inspect the trucks and replace the rear driveshaft, if necessary. Owners can contact Toyota at (800) 331-4331 or visit Toyota's recall Web page.
