What's Special About It?
Toyota builds great trucks and the addition of a crew cab-style pickup is exactly what the Tundra needs to inject some new life into the model line. The Tundra Double Cab, like the Tundra extra cab, offers Lexuslike smoothness and civility in a real-truck package that is as rugged as it is versatile. Longer in overall length than the F-150 Super Crew, the new Double Cab is looking to lure Dodge, Ford and GM loyalists into the Toyota camp. With Nissan hot on Toyota's heels in the full-size truck race, the Tundra Double Cab comes on the scene at just the right time. Toyota says the Double Cab is exactly what pickup truck customers want — more of everything.
The Double Cab has a wider and deeper bed than the normal Tundra and has a fully retractable rear window rather than the more conventional sliding rear window. Nose to tail, the Tundra Double Cab has grown over 13 inches, and is now three inches taller.
Toyota understands this market, and just to show it's serious about competing head to head with the domestics, Toyota will begin racing six Tundras in the NASCAR Craftsman truck race series. If winning NASCAR races doesn't sell a bunch of Toyota trucks, I don't know what will.
The Tundra Double Cab goes on sale in the fall of 2003.
