    Just the Facts:
    • Toyota on Thursday said it is recalling 2.2 million vehicles in the U.S. to address potential gas-pedal entrapment.
    • Toyota will recall approximately 603,000 2003-'09 4Runner vehicles, 761,000 2006-'10 RAV4 vehicles and 17,000 2008-'11 Lexus LX 570 vehicles, in an amendment to its 2009 pedal entrapment recall.
    • Toyota will also recall approximately 372,000 2004-'07 Lexus RX 330, RX 350 and RX 400h vehicles and 397,000 2004-'06 Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles to replace floor carpet covering and retention clips on the driver's side that could interfere with the accelerator pedal.
    • Toyota also recalled 20,000 2006-'07 Lexus GS 300 and GS 350 all-wheel drive vehicles to modify the shape of a plastic pad embedded in the driver's-side floor carpet that could cause the accelerator pedal to become stuck.

TORRANCE, California — Toyota on Thursday said it is recalling 2.2 million vehicles in the U.S. to address potential gas-pedal entrapment. The latest recall means that the Japanese automaker has recalled approximately 14 million vehicles worldwide over safety issues since 2009.

The announcement comes on the heels of a high-profile study by U.S. safety regulators and NASA that said electronic flaws were not the cause of reports of sudden, unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles.

The latest recall also follows the recent move by Toyota to get a U.S. District Court judge to dismiss a class-action lawsuit triggered by the recalls. An order in that dismissal request has not yet been made, according to the U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, California.

Toyota will recall approximately 603,000 2003-'09 4Runner vehicles, 761,000 2006-'10 RAV4 vehicles and 17,000 2008-'11 Lexus LX 570 vehicles, in an amendment to its 2009 pedal entrapment recall. The automaker said in a statement that it will "address the potential for unsecured or incompatible floor mat entrapment of the accelerator pedal" in this recall.

Toyota will also recall approximately 372,000 2004-'07 Lexus RX 330, RX 350 and RX 400h vehicles and 397,000 2004-'06 Highlander and Highlander HV vehicles to replace floor carpet covering and retention clips on the driver's side that could interfere with the accelerator pedal.

"If the forward retention clip used to secure the floor carpet cover, which is located in front of the center console, is not installed properly, the cover may lean toward the accelerator pedal and interfere with the accelerator pedal arm," it said. "If this occurs, the accelerator pedal may become temporarily stuck in a partially depressed position rather than returning to the idle position."

Toyota also recalled 20,000 2006-'07 Lexus GS 300 and GS 350 all-wheel-drive vehicles to modify the shape of a plastic pad embedded in the driver's side floor carpet that could cause the accelerator pedal to become stuck. This recall will begin in early March.

Owners of the aforementioned 4Runner, LX 570, RX, Highlander and RAV4 vehicles will get an interim notification in the "near future" said Toyota of when the recall will begin.

Toyota owners can contact the automaker at 1-800-331-4331. Lexus owners can contact the automaker at 1-800-255-3987.

Information about the latest Toyota recall had not yet been posted on the Web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as of Thursday morning. NHTSA is the federal safety watchdog that oversees all vehicle recalls.

Well the fact that people support toyota so much is actually sickening.  And people rip on american car manufactures all the time. But what they need to take into account is that the big 3 manufactures support north americas economy.

Also when a japanese car maker makes a profit, the profits don't stay in the country they get transfered back to japan so when you make a purchase your not helping your country in the long run. Sure your giving that particular dealership business and the people there a job, thats great.  But they don't reinvest their money into north america like ford, gm, and chrysler. Thats just fact.

If those people, excusme...the ignorant and the uneducated...actually took time to learn that all those recalls are for floormats, mostly aftermarket products that are thicker than factory ones.

The more I follow this website it amazes me how the majority, not all, the comments originate from sorry to say, very narrow minded people. I think the majority of Americans walk through life as "sheeple" very rarely thinking for themselves and forming their own opinions. The U.S. media are fear mongers and startegically manipulate facts to stimulate fear among the non thinkers.

The big three, G.M., Chrysler and Ford should have had no Government money and sink or swim just like the rest of you folks in the U.S. But that would have been so un-American, after all what would a big burly redneck look like rididng around in a Totota Tundra pick-up instead of his F350 Super Duty.

America without the big three would be be so unmasculine...like a male looking down and seeing his shriveld up peepee. Wake up America!

This recall has nothing to do with aftermarket floor mats. Toyota is recalling the cars to inspect the floor mat clip to ensure it is installed correctly.

BTY, Ford did not take any unsecure g'vment loans...

The g'vment also cleared Toyota if any electrical defects in their vehicles that led to unintended excelleration. If the US g'vment had it in for Toyota, they would have found something instead of nothing.

Toyota, by theit own admission, touted the fact that they avoided recalls in the name of profits. They knew of safety issues and ignored them. They admitted so at the congressional hearings last year.

So, is the US g'vment out to get Toyota just to save domestics? No. Your claims are just false and based on your twisted opinions. If it was just hte US g'vment out to get Toyota, why have all recalls been on a global scale and not just done in the US?

Bottom line is Toyota has really screwed up over the last few years and their reputation has been tarnished.

I will never buy a Toyota product based on the principle that they lied to their millions of customers about safety concerns just to make higher profits. That is unethical and immoral.

No, it actually doesn't make any sense at all; but I know you're trying to be polite.

"This is just a way to put toyota down because the goverment and unions is trying to help G.M car sales or american car sales. Toyota was dominating in car sales This all started at the same time G.M. went bankrupt Goverment owns G.M. I have a 2004 lexus RX 330 and i have 173,000 miles on it and never had a problem with the pedal sticking. car still runs very good. Go governor Scott Walker!"

The return of the tin hats! There are so many factual and logic issues here that it's hard to know where to start. The unions and the government did not force Toyota to recall these vehicles. In fact the NHSTA recently made a critical finding in favor of Toyota's safety.

Toyota is a LEADING car sales but a 14.1% share in the U.S. is not DOMINATING.

GM's financial problems have nothing to do with Toyota's perceived or actual product issues.

Your individual experience is simply 1 data point.

Scott Walker to my knowledge doesn't build cars, but given the rest of the post I suppose makes some kind of sense, indirectly.

Another 2.2 MILLION RECALLS for RECALL MOTORS?

    How fitting!

You would have to be seriously retarded to consider a Toyota brand.

Oh Wait!  Its the UAW and the government that installed those pedals.  Lets somehow find a way to blame them.

I hate Toyota because they don't have a single car in their entire portfolio worth a damn anymore. None of their cars have any pretense of being more than an appliance, and a cheap appliance at that. What happened to company who made the Supra, MR2, and Celica?
