DALLAS — The updated 2012 Toyota Tacoma compact truck adds a new TRD T|X Baja Series next spring. The TRD T|X Baja Series will be offered on Tacoma Access and Double Cab 4x4 models equipped with the TRD Off-Road package and eventually may be extended to the Tacoma PreRunner.

Introduced Thursday at the Texas State Fair, the Baja Series joins a growing family of offroad-inspired packages on the Tacoma from Toyota Racing Development, including the TRD T|X and T|X Pro series.

The 2012 Tacoma TRD T|X Baja Series will be built at Toyota's San Antonio plant in Texas.

The T|X Baja Series is fitted with a 4.0-liter V6 and a choice of a six-speed manual gearbox or five-speed automatic.

The TRD Off-Road package bundles electronically controlled locking rear differential, Active Traction Control (A-TRAC), Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) and Downhill Assist Control (DAC), while the T|X Baja Series adds BF Goodrich T/A KO tires (LT265/70R16), bead-lock-style off-road wheels with an exclusive Gun-Metal Gray finish, TRD Cat-back Exhaust, increased front ride height of nearly two inches and unique Baja Series graphics.

Bilstein race shocks and TRD coil springs provide an additional inch of wheel travel in front and 1.5 inches in the rear.

The entire 2012 Tacoma line gets an exterior freshening, with redesigned hood, grille, headlamps and front bumper, as well as an updated cabin with new instrument panel, center stack and steering wheel.

Inside Line says: TRD knows Baja and off-road trucks better than nearly anyone.

This truck is nothing less of bad ass.  The only thing missing from it is the flawless 4.7l V8 that I have in my 4runner.  I'm sure trevb151's oversized awesome looking raptor has a considerable amount of torque. However, being a Ford,  I'm hoping he can get to 150,000 miles without losing 20% power and/or falling apart.

I was able to take on a raptor, a lifted dodge 4x4, and a lifted wrangler last year in my stock 170,000mi '03 4runner on 60 ft sand dunes in El Paso like it was nothing.  Buy quality.  That's all I have to say.

My raptor sh*t this last night. Putting stickers and rims on a truck isnt going to make it a performance truck just as putting racing shocks on a moped isnt going to make it a badass dirtbike. Theres cons with my raptor but theres no way id give it up for this joke

I'll go with the 2012 Tacoma and will buy one this spring of 2012! I just won't buy the TRD Baja of the Tacoma. I'm having to decide if I should go with the SR5 package or the sport package. No off road because my butt will be on pavement roads almost every time I'm going to school and a part time job. It runs smoother if getting the SR5 package, but what about the sport package, huh? Is it much like the off road? It will be silver. Double cab. The front end of this Tacoma is looking real cool, but the body style looks the same. Last year's model, the front end can't beat the 2012. I recon that there is something missing at the bumper area though. There is some chrome on the facia. I'll get a chrome bull bar installed on this baby. I think it'll make it looks better. and install side step. Can't wait

I'm going with a 2012 tacoma. For me, it's the right choice! Not buying the TRD Baja version though. I'm going to get an SR5 double cab, silver. The front end looks really cool, so it's better than last year's model the way it looks. I like what you've done with the front end, Tacoma. Good move. The body style still looks the same as before and the interior looks awesome. SR5 package will do great and run smoothly on pavement roads than the off road. I also think that something is missing at the bumper area from the chrome facia. Better get a chrome bull bar installed on that baby at least it makes it look cool.

no, they said mid 30's not no 45 cant you read. Do any of you drive a truck because it looks like you dont stangdriver and cobradriver. go ahead and spend 50 grand for the rapter and this kind of truck is perfedt for what you want for off road driving. not no heavy, bulky ford.

I still want Toyota to offer the Tacoma some necessary basic equipment for winter area driving such as heated outside mirror and rear window defroster...Even Nissan Frontier trucks have them, come on Toy, this is 2012 models. Whas up with your beancounters cheaping out on us!?!

Looks kinda cool, but those wheels look terrible IMO.

If you read the actual press release, the estimated price is in the mid-30s, not $45k.  Which makes a lot more sense, seeing how a regular Tacoma Off Road is $30k.

You guys are stupid for actually believing an obvious Ford fanboi (can't be more obvious than "cobraboy1") and not checking the facts.

Thought they where going to do something innovative like bring in a TDI diesel for best fuel efficiency of all pick-ups ! Instead graphics and off-road suspension for the smallest percentage of buyers.  Maybe Toyota needs to fire a few of their decision makers !

If it weren't for the stickers, it'd look like a plain jane Tacoma. Removing the stickers on the Raptor, it still looks badass. This TRD Baja is a lazy and weak attempt to ride the successful wave of interest that the Raptor has created for this kind of truck. But Toyota did it very halfheartedly.
