SHANGHAI, China — Toyota's recall in China to fix the problematic gas pedal will start as soon as the end of February. The recall in this country is restricted to the RAV4 sport-utility vehicle built by its Tianjin FAW Toyota joint venture.
Toyota said on January 28 that it would recall 75,552 RAV4s that were made between March 19, 2009, and January 25, 2010, by Tianjin FAW Toyota.
A Toyota dealer in Shanghai said the carmaker has started shipping parts to China to replace the pedals and said repair guidelines are also on the way to dealerships nationwide.
"We have booked appointments with car owners, and the recall will officially start on February 28," said Wang Lingyun, a Toyota dealer. The RAV4 is still on sale in China, but new deliveries have been suspended. Wang said deliveries would resume after Toyota has fixed the problem.
