TOKYO — Toyota has released the first official photos of the face-lifted 2012 Land Cruiser 200 in Japan. An updated Land Cruiser is due in the U.S. in 2012, along with a face-lifted version of its sibling, the Lexus LX 570.
The right-hand-drive variant of the Land Cruiser is sold in Japan and various global markets. As pictured here, the changes to the Land Cruiser are mainly cosmetic.
Revisions include new headlamps, foglamps, grille, bumpers, taillamps, mirrors and wheels. In addition to new interior colors and trim, Toyota has updated the instrument panel and infotainment system.
Both five- and eight-passenger versions are offered in the Japanese domestic market in several trim levels, along with optional Luxury and Urban Sports packages.
A 315-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 is standard on the Japanese model.
Inside Line says: Look for the Lexus version of this SUV to make an appearance at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

I wish these cars were still relevant in the US versus their crossover siblings though no one will be dropping $75000 for the Toyota badged version, we had 2 LX470s a while back and they were the most reliable, comfortable, go anywhere vehicles and bar none my favorite Toyota product available.

Meh. Looks like the same designers who uglified the current 4runner from the prior bland execution have done the same for the 'cruiser.

I am not a fan of the headlights and taillights bulging out from the vehicles body like a goldfish. This does not look like a premium SUV. The Sequoia is a better looking SUV. Another perfect example of Japanese auto designers gone mad. The Europeans and the Koreans seem to know what consumers want. Even Detroit's big three are making great design progress.

What the heck is the pod thing sticking out on the passenger side front fender?
Tha'ts a side-view/blind-spot mirror just like in the 1950/60's vehicles. Its quite popular in a lot of overseas markets but I'm not sure if its some sort of government requirement.

openeyes1, companies will do nothing unless it is demanded by the consumer. Why do you tihnk the Jeep Wrangler still gets pathetic MPG and weighs as much as a dump truck despite the new engine and tranny? Because the customers don't demand or expect anything out of them. If a company can get away with selling old school garbage at a premium, they are going to do it. Toyota is no different. It's actually very American of them. If people stop buying it and start demanding something better, then you will see changes.

Toyota's biggest gas hog gets a face lift, that will certainly boast sales for those that enjoy land Yachts. How about a major weight loss, and a more fuel efficient engine, Toyota (you have the skill and technology to do so).
