    What is it?
    Toyota FXS

    What's special about it?
Toyota still swings high on its roadster momentum, kicked off from the success of its spirited MR2 Spyder, with this rear-wheel-drive concept. Powered by a 300-horsepower 4.3-liter V8 connected to a six-speed manual tranny, the FXS features a perfect front-to-rear 50/50 weight ratio allowing for agile cornering abilities. The 18-inch wheels house double wishbones front and rear, further complementing its athletic possibilities. Shodding the FXS are 245/40R18s up front and fat 285/35R18 in the rear.

Its low-slung profile and ultra-short front and rear overhangs emphasize its monocoque sportiness, while its slitty horizontal headlamps and vertical taillamp add to a futuristic appearance. A chrome-festooned interior catches the eye, and wrapped in iridescent paint, the FXS is truly a head-turner.

    Why should you care?
If the MR2 Spyder is a lighthearted romp, sort of like Britney Spears on the Mickey Mouse Club, think of the FXS as Britney's tightly toned MTV years. This is one of the only concept vehicles we've seen during the Tokyo Motor Show that appeal to more mature sensibilities. These design cues could point toward the future of Toyota's "fun" cars, resulting in more sleek, sexy and grown-up looks than the insectoid visage of the MR2 Spyder and the edgy lines of the Toyota Celica. — Liz Kim
