TOKYO — Toyota will be showing a new electric city-car concept, the FT-EV II, at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show. Although it has novelties such as twin sliding doors and an under-floor lithium-ion battery pack, it has clearly come from the same family as Toyota's award-winning iQ micro mini.
Just 107 inches long, the ultra-compact concept can still seat four, Toyota says, and has been designed to be highly efficient, maneuverable and easy to drive.
Driving range per charge is set at 56 miles, and it has a claimed 62 mph top speed.
Inside Line says: The concept clearly points the way to the small city EV that Toyota plans to have on the market by 2012. — Peter Nunn, Correspondent

Leave it to the Japanese to make a car look like the head of a robot...
