- Toyota says it will recall 12,984 cars in South Korea.
- Affected cars include the Toyota Camry, Camry Hybrid and Lexus ES 350.
- The recall has to do with floor mats that might become trapped under the accelerator pedal in those cars.
SEOUL, South Korea — A day after Toyota was slapped with a $16.4 million fine from U.S. regulators, the embattled Japanese automaker said on Tuesday it will recall 12,984 vehicles sold in South Korea due to floor mat problems. The recall involves the Lexus ES 350 and the Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid, although the model years involved were not cited.
South Korea's transport ministry said some carpeted floor mats in those vehicles could roll forward and interfere with accelerator pedals.
South Korean media is buzzing with concerns over why that market is several months behind the U.S. over the floor mat recall. But Toyota says there is a difference between the South Korea recall and recent U.S. recalls because the floor mats used for the two markets are different, according to media reports.
The head of Toyota's South Korean unit apologized to customers on Tuesday for the "inconvenience" of the recalls.

They're behind because Toyota insisted there was no problem, but gov't tests showed otherwise.
