The 2010 Toyota 4Runner may well be the last of the midsize, full-frame, off-road-ready SUVs. So successful have car-based crossovers been in attracting family buyers, it's apparent that traditional SUVs are disappearing from the market.
Except for the 4Runner, which gets new sheet metal and new off-road technologies for 2010 and loses its V8 engine option. Still based on the hard-core Land Cruiser Prado platform, the 2010 Toyota 4Runner can climb over rocks and cover broken ground that would shatter the welds on a crossover's unibody within the first 100 yards.
