2008 SEMA Show: Toyota Talks Tough Trucks

    0 Ratings

LAS VEGAS — Trucks large and small dominated Toyota's 2008 SEMA Show stand, with the focus on the full-size Tundra and midsize Tacoma. In many cases, Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has lent a helping hand.

Aimed at drag racers, the 2009 Tundra TR Concept — also known as Thunder Pak — starts with the Tundra Regular Cab 4x2 with a 5.7-liter V8. A TRD supercharger bumps output to 500 horsepower and a nitrous system gooses that even further, to 625 hp. Other TRD bits include a sport suspension and lowering kit, ceramic-coated exhaust system and boost gauge.

The TRD Tundra Double Cab 4x4 Off-Road Concept comes with its own matching 28-foot Featherlite car-hauler trailer. The truck itself boasts a TRD-supercharged 500-hp 5.7-liter V8 with air-to-liquid intercooler, plus 17-inch TRD forged off-road wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich rubber. Features include a long-travel suspension, revised front and rear fascia, wide-body fenders and a custom trailer in the bed.

The 2009 Tundra Ducati Desmosedici transporter is built on a Tundra CrewMax with a 6.5-foot bed, and gets a full range of TRD performance parts and a Fast Ed's Interiors treatment. The truck rides on 22-inch Alcoa custom forged aluminum wheels shod with Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico tires.

The Tacoma Incross concept truck has a 4.7-liter V8 fitted with TRD headers and Tube Solutions dual exhaust. The truck combines a short bed and Tacoma Access Cab body, with additional bodywork and a matte green paint scheme. Seventeen-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires are mounted on American Racing wheels, with Bilstein shocks at the corners.

The TRD Tacoma X-Runner concept employs a TRD supercharger and intercooler to push the 4.0-liter V6 to 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque. Other features include a DC Sports stainless steel exhaust, Recaro sport seats and an Alpine premium audio system. HRE three-piece forged aluminum wheels are wrapped in 20-inch Pirelli P Zero Scorpion tires.
