Tesla Eye by IED: 2010 Geneva Auto Show

TURIN — The Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) had lofty ambitions for its new Eye concept, designed by graduate students in collaboration with U.S. electric-carmaker Tesla Motors and set for a debut at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show.

IED says the Eye concept was "born out of research into the identity promoted by Tesla to achieve a new objective: designing an everyday 2+2 sports car conceived to become a status symbol, a car with engaging features and sports-car performance ideally suited to a young, cosmopolitan target, particularly given its accessible price tag, and all those people who are constantly in touch with the world via the Web and digital technologies."

Got all that? The Eye will be shown in Geneva as a full-scale model. It was created by 11 master students at the design school under the direction of Luca Borgogno, a senior designer with Pininfarina, and Andrea Militello, a senior designer at Fiat. Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla's chief designer (and formerly of Mazda) also gave his input.

For now, you can watch IED's video presentation of the Tesla Eye. It's just a bit over the top, as you'll see the computer-rendered car powersliding through corners.

The full-scale model of IED's Tesla Eye was built in cooperation with Pirelli and OZ Racing, so now you know what brand of wheels and tires the showcar will have.

The front looks similar in style to that of the the Bertone Pandion.

Maybe a better name should be "Tesla Romeo".

for all this "brilliant talent" you think they would know the Tesla technology doesn't sound like a wound out motorcycle engine going by.  This is supposed to be an electric car???

So that is what Tesla is spending that government money on.  Who cares that they don't even have a working prototype of their sedan that somes out next year.
