BASEL, Switzerland — The 2010 Tag Heuer Tesla Roadster embarked on a 12,000-mile road trip on Thursday, with a little celebrity help from actor and pitchman Leonardo DiCaprio. The journey can be followed on Twitter, with at least three stops planned in the U.S. through October.
The electric-car startup is billing the road trip as the first around-the-world journey for a zero-emissions car.
The Tag Heuer Tesla Roadster, which boasts an unusual cabin designed around a wristwatch, debuted at the 2010 Geneva Auto Show. The concept watch, which fits into the Roadster's center console, debuted on Thursday at the Baselworld Watch Expo here.
The one-off Roadster is a collaboration between Tesla and the longtime Swiss watchmaker. The car's exterior paint is Foucault Field Gray, which takes its inspiration from the concept watch.
Look for stops in Los Angeles July 29-30, a stop in Miami on August 19 and appearances in New York City September 2-5.

Given the real world range of about 125 - 160 miles per charge - lets guess the names of the driver and navigator - Fogg and Passepartout. A nice test bed for future transport components - and a dandy ride if you have $130k for a sporty short commute-mobile.
