The Roadster Sport will also share the powertrain with the automaker's all-electric Tesla Model S luxury sedan, which is slated to go on sale in 2011.
The electric start-up said the Roadster Sport sprints from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds, compared with 3.9 seconds for the standard Roadster. Other details include an improved suspension with adjustable dampers and antiroll bars that will be tuned to the driver's preference.
Tesla used the rollout of the Roadster Sport to update its corporate performance. It said that it has delivered more than 150 Roadsters and about 1,100 people are on the waiting list. Tesla noted that customers who have not yet taken delivery of their vehicle can upgrade to the Roadster Sport.
