    Just the Facts:
    • Tesla CEO Elon Musk reveals a few of the company's future projects.
    • Musk says a convertible, a small van and a crossover will be based on the Model S sedan.
    • The Model S is due out in mid-2012.

PALO ALTO, California — In the run-up to next week's initial public offering of stock, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk is heading up a not-so-traditional investor road show that includes videos and a Web-based PowerPoint presentation that reveals, among other things, the company's plans to expand its range of models.

One of the road-show slides includes an image of the upcoming Model S sedan alongside renderings of three other models — a convertible, a small van and a crossover. In the accompanying video, Musk says all three will be based on the Model S.

The slide describes the underlying architecture of the Model S, which is due in mid-2012, as an "adaptable common platform" and says the future vehicles will share a common powertrain.

Musk's remarks, as well as the company's prospectus, can be accessed at Retail Road Show.

i wonder if tesla motors would consider pulling a lotus and put supercharged 4cyl toyota engines in the mean time to build some capital. or how about a petrol line and a electrical line?

For the sake of my friends in Fremont, CA, I hope this Tesla thing works out. Having said that, Elon Musk is looking less legit with each passing day. Is his sudden fund raising frenzy the result of his personal problems, or is it really preparations for production. A good case can be made either way. The EV industry presents some unique opportunities for entrepreneurs, but a Tesla
failure will drop the future of EVs back into the lab of the major auto companies. Maybe it belongs there.

Which business is going to spend $50K on a small commerical EV cargo van, when the Ford Transit Connect EV will be likely had for half the money?

Which prospective Tesla S buyer is going to want to spend $60K for a luxury EV sedan when a cargo van is built off its platform?
