$2,500 people's car, the Tata Nano, is coming to the U.S. When it does, it will very likely cost a lot more than $2,500 and probably won't arrive before 2013. | January 07, 2010

Tata Nano Heading to U.S.

NEW DELHI — Indian auto magnate Ratan Tata, whose Tata Group stable includes the luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover, said he plans to bring the no-frills Tata Nano to the U.S. market, but probably not before 2013.

According to India's Business Standard newspaper, Ratan Tata said demand for the Nano, which is priced from around $2,500 in the home market, continues to outstrip supply in India.

"We are recognizing the demand for Nano not only in the regional developing market, but also in the developed market," Tata told the paper. "Therefore, we may launch Nano for the U.S. market."

Tata said a U.S.-spec Nano would require a larger engine, as well as additional modifications and safety equipment. He said a U.S. launch is still at least three years away.

$8000 dosn't sound as nice.....its a shame they cant make it more around the $2-4000 range then it would be priced for the "PEOPLE" like the V.W BUG that stole Americas hearts making way for V.W in our family. I have nver made over $45000 a year & i refuse to get a loan for a vehicle so a new vehicle priced in the USED car price range would garantee a sale heck i would be runing to the dealer wallet in hand. That electric model sounds even better but that i realize is a pipe dream for the comon American with the battery price but thats what the world needs.

I would be most interested in purchasing your TataNano if you coukld keep the price down low enough, if you could sell this auto for say under $4000.00 american dollars, you will not be able to keep in stock.  The lower the price here the more autos you will sell.  Very interesting consept also in Electricity car.  Keep us posted on your plans and arivial to US Market.  Bueatiful lil" car.

I have heard price estimates for a U.S. market Tata Nano of around $8,000. Sounds
conceivable and yes, I think there will be a sizable market in these U.S.
