    Just the Facts:
    • Suzuki is recalling nearly 70,000 2007-'10 SX4 vehicles because the outside mirrors can fall off.
    • Included in the recall: 2007 Suzuki SX4 hatchback and the 2008-'10 SX4 hatchback and sedan.
    • The recall is expected to begin on November 10.

WASHINGTON — Suzuki is recalling 69,587 2007-'10 SX4 vehicles because the outside mirrors can fall off, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The vehicles include the 2007 Suzuki SX4 hatchback and the 2008-'10 SX4 hatchback and sedan.

"The three screws that secure each of the outside rearview mirrors to the mirror base can come loose due to vibration," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "If a rearview mirror falls off the vehicle, the driver will have reduced visibility, increasing the risk of a crash."

In other documentation filed with the federal government, Suzuki noted that "after investigation, it was determined that the cause of the reported condition was that the supplier had eliminated use of adhesive (thread lock) on the screws that secure the mirror to the mirror base." The paperwork was signed by Kenneth M. Bush, American Suzuki Motor associate director of government relations. The supplier in this case is Tokai Rika of Japan.

The recall is expected to begin on November 10. Suzuki dealers will replace the base screws on both outside rearview mirrors. Owners can contact Suzuki at 887-697-8985.
