Based on the SX4 Crossover, the Sportback loses the crossover's roof-mounted rack and gains a subtle aero package, along with minor tweaks to both its front bumper and grille. A modest chin spoiler and side skirts direct airflow beneath the car, and Suzuki says its revised rear spoiler above the backlight "better manages air over the car." Seventeen-inch alloy rims wrapped in 205/50 all-season Dunlops come standard.
Powering the SX4 Sportback is a new 2.0-liter power plant that lays down 150 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque, while still achieving a combined EPA rating of 26 mpg. A six-speed manual or a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) with paddle shifters help get power to the ground. The suspension features MacPherson struts, springs with a lower ride height, a rear sway bar and performance shocks.
The sporty hatch's interior offers power windows and locks, dual power rearview mirrors, a tilt steering wheel, split rear seats, rear passenger floor vents and a new instrument cluster with aluminum-looking trim. A four-speaker audio system with XM compatibility along with integrated navigation is also standard.
Suzuki says the SX4 Sportback will arrive in dealerships early this fall.
