The Swift Sport Cup is part of the British Rally Championship that provides a "competitive environment and training ground for aspiring teams and future Champions," according to the race series Web site.
Suzuki's series has been set up to make competition easy for amateur drivers, with the company giving its full support by equipping the teams with gear, technical knowledge and even the support of its press office. Suzuki transports cars to each race and provides a maintenance tent, technical support and on-site parts availability.
The Swift Sport Cup cars are powered by 123-horsepower 1.6-liter engines built by Monster Sport Europe with new air filters, exhaust pipes and clutches. The cars are also upgraded to take the abuse of rally driving with reinforced suspension mounts, a fuel tank guard, a roll cage, harnesses and a fire suppression system.
Six crews have signed up for the six-race series so far, with the first event happening on April 18. In addition to competing for top placing and prizes within the Swift Sport Cup, competitors are also eligible for class prizes in the British Rally Championship.
What this means to you: Despite the Swift's small size, it can still handle some of the harshest racing conditions. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
