Suzuki is working on the next generation of the Swift hatchback. This B-segment car is about the size of a Ford Fiesta. These Swifts have a lower ride height than some of the earlier prototypes we've seen, suggesting that engineers are trying out different suspension calibrations. Suzuki already sells a Swift Sport model with firmer tuning. The prototype with the alloy wheels and low profile tires is probably a follow-up to that car. The other prototype with the black steel wheels doesn't look quite as aggressive. From the sound of it, there's a diesel under the hood. Europe is a key market for the Swift, so having a diesel is important. Will the United States be a key market for the Swift as well? Only time will tell.

k55 hit the nail on the head! Suzuki seems capable of building cars that enthusiasts can enjoy, but they need marketing help in the worst way. Too many missed opportunities in this decade alone. They always seem reluctant to make a 100% commitment to the US market. Their recent pruning of the dealer network left Suzuki owners, in some areas, with a very long drive for service. The Suzuki USA management needs to make a total commitment to consumer confidence.

The prior Suzuki Swift /Swift Sport has been out in Europe for several years and is a true Sport Hatch with quite a following. To me it seems Suzuki missed an opportunity to compete with MINI for thousands less and are truly taking their sweet Azz time getting the replacement here. The Kizashi is a nice piece of work but I think this vehicle would have made more of an impact if brought to the USA much sooner. Despite them mentioning 2012 it should arrive in 2011. This should have been here in 2007.

Does every car need to lap the Nurburgring now? Based on the past model Swift i drove (which mind you, was rather excellent) Suzuki need to work on the interior plastics before worrying about shaving half a second of the grocery getters laptime.

It's scheduled for the US market soon, to be marketed this time as a more upscale hatch, priced between the SX4 and the Kizashi. The hot versions are very well respected in Japan and Europe.
The Swift GT was ahead of its time when it began sales here in the early 90s, and was a blast to drive. Since the successful return of the Mini, many brands are hoping to sell more up-market small cars here. Lets hope this begins a new "hot hatch" trend in our market with cars that are a little bit smaller than the first generation, but offering a wider variety of equipment.
Good things CAN come in small packages.
